A Song Lost To Time

Do you ever get a song stuck in your head that you can't find no matter how hard you look?

A couple of years back, specifically on April 24th, 2021, an acquaintance of mine posted an audio clip of a song that he had heard at some point during Google I/O 2018 and was unable to find. While he posted about it in 2019 and in 2018 before that, I only met this person in 2020. After taking a listen, I made it my mission to find this song.

Here's the clip I was given:

And here are the lyrics that were given alongside that clip.

I'll swim deep, down down down Pull you out, now now now

'cause you're in my dreams of, haunting me and I'd do anything love, just to breathe

I filled you up when you think you're alone, and no one picks up the phone, forgotten skin and bones

Oh ooohhhh yeah I take you home, fill your body with chrome, build a castle a moat,

'cause you build me up, oh oh oh, and you never let go, oh oh oh yeah you build me up, oh oh oh

So armed with that knowledge I began the hunt.

Unfortunately, the results turned up inconclusive. I had searched for hours across the internet. Every few months I would take a crack at it again, and still, I'd turn up nothing. That was, until today.

I woke up and after checking some messages I got overnight, I decided to check my YouTube feed. One of the videos that popped up was someone talking about how they found a song through WatZatSong.com. Immediately the one track that I've been thinking about for years popped into my head. So I hopped on my computer and decided to take another crack at it.

While I first thought about uploading to WatZatSong, I decided against it because I needed to make an account. After hitting up Shazam and a few other services, I found AHA Music. I uploaded that little clip I had and actually got a result!

Title: Build You Up Instr 001-JP
Artists: Jeffrey Peters, Jared Gutstadt
Album: JPO 04_2019
Release Date: 2022-03-24

This was the furthest I ever got. I knew I was very close so the hunt continued. Naturally, I click on the links for Spotify and Apple Music listed on the page.

No results.

The next step would be to look up the song title directly. So after punching in what seemed to be a very distinct song name, I got no results. The very distinct-looking album also got me nowhere so I looked up the artists.

While "Jeffrey Peters" led me to a bunch of people, looking up "Jared Gutstadt" was the person I needed to find.

Jared Gutstadt is the founder of a company called Jingle Punks, a music publishing and licensing company. They provide some music for a bunch of different media and I know of them because their music is widely available in YouTube's audio library. It's full of royalty-free music that you'll recognize pretty much immediately if you have an unhealthy relationship with the site like myself.

Jingle Punks has its own website and one of the features of the site allows users to search songs by keywords to find the right song for whatever they're making. After searching for the song "Build You Up" I got 7 results. Only one of those results was not an instrumental so I clicked play.

My heart jumped out of my chest. The first few notes I heard were a match. I kept listening and this was the song. Years of wondering and searching had all led up to this. Immediately I sent a message to the person who turned me on to this mystery and he was ecstatic.

Despite now knowing exactly the name of the song, the proper artist, and the album, searching for any of this still yields no results. I think the only result you'll get will either be a post talking about that mystery of a song, or this page right here.

I've only found this song on the Jingle Punks site and one other website that does music licensing. Looking through some of the Jingle Punks catalog, I noticed quite a few Seinfeld references and some Hitchhiker's Guide references as well. Considering that the artist listed is "Serenity Now" I'm guessing that this was a track made in-house by Jingle Punks.

With that said, I don't think I'll get in trouble for this as I can find no other trace of this song and it's not in YouTube's content ID system, so for your listening pleasure, please enjoy "Serenity Now's Build You Up" off of the album "The Greatest Jingler".

If you want to license this song, please reach out to Jingle Punks proper.

Lyrics

I'll swim deep, down, down, down
Pull you out, now, now, now
Cause you're in my dreams oh, haunting me
And I'd do anything love, just to breathe

I build you up when you think you're alone
And no one picks up the phone
Forgotten skin and bones
Oh oh yeah
I take you home, fill your body with chrome
Build a castle, a moat

Cause you build me up
Oh oh oh
And you never let go
Oh oh oh
Yeah you build me up
Oh oh oh
And you never let, never let it go

There will be, a reckoning
Everything, on its knees
All the world will sing
In the sunshine of the Spring
You and me will be on, the top of everything

I build you up when you think you're alone
And no one picks up the phone
Forgotten skin and bones
Oh oh yeah
I take you home, fill your body with chrome
Build a castle, a moat

Cause you build me up
Oh oh oh
And you never let go
Oh oh oh
Yeah you build me up
Oh oh oh
And you never let, never let it go

There will be...
(Oh oh oh)
(Oh oh oh)
(Oh oh oh)
(Oh oh oh)

I'll swim deep
(Oh oh oh)
Down, down, down
(Oh oh oh)
Pull you out
(Oh oh oh)
Now, now, now

I build you up when you think you're alone
And no one picks up the phone
Forgotten skin and bones
Oh oh yeah
I take you home, fill your body with chrome
Build a castle, a moat

Cause you build me up
Oh oh oh
And you never let go
Oh oh oh
Yeah you build me up
Oh oh oh
And you never let, never let it go

Hopefully, if you find yourself looking for this one song that is unsearchable, you'll have found what you've been looking for here. If not, I wish you well on your journey.

As always, I will leave you with a few words.
